Installed WordPress 2.6

The install went pretty well, but it scared the beans out of me when I could no longer log in! The solution was to delete any and all brainofshawn.com cookies in my browser. Now all works, but it was a scary few minutes. 🙂

Now I have to go check on my plugins… Hopefully all is well.

So how are you?

NASA Is Being Smart, I Like It

If you Twitter, and don’t follow the Mars Phoenix Lander, you really should. The idea of NASA personifying spacecraft, and interactively talking with people on social networks is FULL of teh awesome.

I am so impressed that NASA has gone so far as to talk about Mars with people in a no nonsense, simple, understandable way. And interactively to boot. Got a question? Just ask. It’s awesome, and I hope NASA gets the praise they deserve for it. Even more than that, however, I hope that the Web 2.0 generation (ha! I’ve forced us into another arbitrary generation!) puts more and more support behind NASA and space exploration.

(Oh, check out @CassiniSaturn too. Anyone know of other twittering spacecraft?)

UPDATE: I just got a hit from someone using a Blackberry and a NASA IP address. I feel shiny. 🙂

Passion

First off, I highly recommend you do not watch “America’s Got Talent” — it’s almost entirely absurd. Their adoption of Jerry Springer as host only exemplifies that. That said, it was on TV while I was in my office, so I left it on for background noise. I heard a young man singing, and I was moved by his passion. Note: I was not moved by his amazing ability. He’s a good singer, but had timing issues, and his drawing out of the last bit of the song took away from the finish as opposed to adding to it (the latter being his hope I’m sure).

But the boy’s got passion. I wish I had the musical talent this young man has, because expressing emotion is not as easy as it sounds. Writing tends to be my shtick (well, videos too I guess), and I find it difficult, or at least seemingly more challenging to express emotion in the same way music allows. Perhaps it’s just the desire to have a talent I don’t possess, but whatever the reason, there’s no denying that music is powerful. Here’s a clip of Eli Mattson in action:

Bright Orange Above Ground Cable

After 4 months of calling, complaining, calling, begging, calling, ranting, and then calling again — Charter finally sent out a technician that agreed to do what I asked the original guys in March to do. That is, to replace the coax cable from the road to my house. The connector at the house sat exposed to the elements for years when we had satellite, and were badly corroded. Sure, they clipped off the end and started “fresh”, but my suspicion was that water had damaged the cable itself.

According to the signal loss in the cable, I was right. I’m sure my head will soon expand to the point I can’t get in the door. Anyway, the new cable is installed, and my Internet connection hasn’t gone offline for over 5 hours. I’m guardedly optimistic. 🙂

So, now with the Internet connection going at (hopefully) full tilt, maybe I’ll get around to like posting and stuff. Ya know?
