No, I did not have chili last night for dinner. And, eiw.
The smell I’m referring to is that which emanates from a microwaveable bag of popcorn after it’s been in the microwave under power for too long. It’s not just a burnt smell mind you, but rather an unholy death stench that invades the very innards of the microwave.
Here’s what I don’t get though: I never know it’s burning, until I open the door. Then the biting putrid odor spews out like a disemboweled zombie all over the kitchen once the door is open. And here’s the odd part — every time AFTER that, whenever the microwave is on, it smells like burnt popcorn. Why didn’t it smell that way when it was actually burning?
I really hate that smell.
Yeah, I agree, burnt microwave popcorn is the worst. I don’t know what it is that makes it smell like that – combination corn, butter oil, and the bag. Yuck.
I buy those Easy Off Microwave Wipes: you zap them for one minute, the bag bursts open and the steam cleans out the oven’s innards. Let it sit for a minute, then use the hot wipe to clean out the oven compartment. Works pretty good for getting rid of the burnt popcorn smell.
Alternatively, you can use a paper-towel soaked in water and lemon juice, zap it for a minute, let it sit for a minute, then wipe down the inside of the machine.
I rediscovered recently that boiled tomato soup makes a great cleanser. (It’s easy to discover this, too, because boiled tomato soup expands a lot more than broth…) It’ll easily take off the worst burnt black spots on and under the drip pans.
Yuck. That is an insidious stench.
So incorporate that in your NaNoWriMo WIP. That’s a couple hundred words down. 😉
And I agree!
